(this message was originally written by X'ania)

Following the success of our first few Wednesday RP events, we've decided to make them a regular feature. Events will take place, therefore, every Wednesday - barring unforseen circumstances - with a guaranteed staff presence from 19:00GMT (15:00EST) to 00:00GMT (20:00EST). Scenes will usually follow a local story arc, but some will be self-contained events. Scenes won't start until there are enough present to play them, and neither do they have to end when the guiding staff member logs off.

And on that note... the scene this Wednesday 21st March is such a stand-alone event, and therefore an excellent opportunity for new characters to enter the mix. Our character generation is very simple - all we require from you is a considered character background - and our game is entirely consent based.

If you have a healthy imagination and you're interested in dynamic character-driven RP in a medieval fantasy setting, stop by RivaMUSH on a Wednesday evening and get yourself involved!

For our next event, we are looking to fill the following roles:

o Grand Duke and Duchess of House Rane (application required);
o Grand Duchess of House Horb (application required);
o Elder son of House Horb (application required);
o lesser family members and household employees of Houses Rane and Horb;

The noble Houses of Tolnedra are well known for their habitual scheming and politicking, and the constant power struggle for dominance over the Empire. With Varana sitting firmly on the Imperial Throne, and House Borune preening as the current Imperial Family, it is left for the other Houses to vie for position in the political make up of the Empire. House Horb and House Rane - like all the Houses - have a long tradition of emnity, but tensions between the families are reaching crisis point.

Tolnedra's Imperial Court is a little like Versailles during the Sun King's reign, or Rome at the times when the Senate and the Emperor were in highest conflict. As such, we need characters with agile, scheming minds to populate her noble Houses and positions of power.

Please log on to Riva and speak to one of us (+staff for a list) if you're at all interested in helping us populate these noble Houses.

The event on Wednesday went rather well and much fun was had by all parties involved. Witness this log file, now online on the RivaMUSH website:

A stormy night in Tol Horb

There's a new event scheduled for this coming Wednesday, Feb. 28. This one will be run by X'ania at 7PM GMT (2 PM EST / 11 AM PST).

Interested parties are cordially invited to log into the game and make a character if you don't already have one. The process is simple and quite painless. All you really need is to write up a background.

Hope to see many of you there.

The event previously announced is being postponed due to some conflicting schedules. There are also some new players interested in participating but they need a bit more time to get set up.

I will post here the new schedule as soon as we know it.

In the meantime, please do drop by to create a character if you wish to join in on the fun.

RivaMUSH currently has a number of staff positions open:

- RP wizzes
- code wizzes
- 1 Tolnedra admin
- general player helpers (these won't necessarily be staff positions, but you should at least have mushing experience)

To apply for a staff position at RivaMUSH you should be friendly, like helping out and have at least 10-14 hours you can spare for the game every week.

If you are interested, or would like more information, please feel free to log into the game and page me (Sith) so we can get to know each other:

For coders wishing to apply, I'll add that the game runs on RhostMUSH.

RivaMUSH is an online text-oriented role-playing game based on the novels written by David Eddings and known as The Belgariad and The Malloreon (5 volumes each). Our story starts where the last book ends (actually, about 5 years later).

For those unfamiliar with the books, it is a fantasy setting, somewhat medieval and heavily influenced by our own history. Note that reading the novels is not a requirement to play on this game, although of course it would probably help you understand some of its aspects and subtleties better.

I will be using this space to post messages about my MUSHing experiences. That is, at the moment, mainly RivaMUSH-related.
